July 24 to July 28 (Mon-Fri) – Douglass Elementary Back to School Home Visits
9 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., Douglass Elementary School, 318 MLK Drive, 78203  

The team at Douglass Elementary does not wait for kids to come back to school. They take the school back to the students! Douglass Elementary Principal Dr. Stephanie Ratliff and her staff make sure their students feel welcome and are ready for the new school year by visiting the kids at home. Students will receive goodie bags while families get reminders about important dates like “Meet the Teacher,” open house and of course, the first day of school on Aug. 15.
 
July 25 (Tues) – SAISD SEAD Conference
7:30 a.m. to 3:30 pa.m., Harris Middle School, 325 Pruitt Ave., 78204  

Social, Emotional, and Academic Development (SEAD) is the integration of all learning dimensions into the educational experience in support of positive outcomes for students through whole-child development. The SAISD Organizational Learning & Support Services team is hosting the district SEAD conference. Dr. Jaime Aquino will be among the speakers to open the conference, which looks to highlight the ways SAISD is providing a socially just education, literacy and social-emotional learning.
 
July 26-27 (Wed-Thurs) – SAISD Summer Musical Theatre and Art Performance of Disney's “The Lion King Jr”
2 p.m. or 6 p.m., Highlands High School, 3118 Elgin Ave., 78210

FREE performances of Disney's “The Lion King Jr.” highlights the SAISD Theatre Summer Camp program. Thespian students in grades 6-12 from across the district have put in the time over the summer to come together and perform this version of the Disney classic. 

July 29 (Sat) – Alamo Convocation Center is the site of a State of Education Legislative Briefing
10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive, 78212 

Raise Your Hand Texas and RootED, a non-profit organization that helps parents recognize ways of getting the most out of their children’s education, are hosts of a State of Education Legislative Briefing. SAISD Superintendent Dr. Jaime Aquino will join local district leaders and state lawmakers for an in-depth discussion on state laws impacting public education. Confirmed state legislators include State Senator Jose Menendez, Dist. 26; State Rep. Barbara Gervin-Hawkins, Dist. 120; and State Rep. Steve Allison, Dist. 121. Topics will include school safety, teacher recruitment and retention, school funding and more.
