Sept. 9 (Sat) – YWLA-Primary “Gardening with Grandparents”
9 a.m. to 11 a.m., YWLA-Primary, 401 Berkshire, 78210

Students and their grandparents will spend quality time during “Gardening with Grandparents,” which will celebrate the love they share while stressing the importance of loving our planet Earth. The event is co-sponsored by Mission Continues (TMC), a national veteran-serving organization that partners with local non-profits to amplify their impactful work. TMC is teaming up with YWLA-Primary and Gardopia Gardens for a day of service in commemoration of 9/11. 

Sept. 11 (Mon) – SAISD campuses celebrate Grandparents Day
Grandparents are a special part of the SAISD familia, and campuses across the district will honor this special bond during Monday events in honor of Grandparents Day.
•         9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., “Reading with Parents,” Ogden Elementary, 2215 Leal St., 78207 
•         9 a.m. to 10 a.m., “Grandparents are Family,” Highland Hills Elemenary, 734 Glamis Ave., 78223
•         10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., “Grandparents Lunch,” Bonham Academy, 925 S. St. Mary’s St., 78205
•         11 a.m., “Grandparents Day Celebration,” Nelson Early Childhood Education Center, 104 Waverly Ave., 78201

Sept. 11 (Mon) – SAISD 9/11 Ceremonies
JROTC cadets are various campuses will remember 9/11 and the lives lost on this day.

Sept. 12 (Tues) – SAISD Rightsizing Community Meetings 
6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Longfellow Middle School, 1130 E. Sunshine Dr., 78228

This is the final meeting in a series of 14 meetings to engage the community in conversations around SAISD’s rightsizing study, which may lead to school closures, mergers, or co-locations.

Sept. 13 (Wed) – Lanier High School 100 Year Celebration
5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Lanier High School, 1514 W Cesar E. Chavez Blvd, 78207

The six original SAISD junior high schools are celebrating 100 years of educating San Antonio students in 2023. Lanier High School originally opened in 1923 as a junior high campus. The historic campus is inviting all in the community to come celebrate the 100th birthday for the school known as “the pride of the west side.”

Sept. 14 (Thurs) – SAISD to hold skilled trades mini-job fair 
9 a.m. to 12 p.m., SAISD Operations Service Center, 1270 W. Summit Ave., 78201

Join our Skilled Trades Familia! San Antonio ISD is hosting a mini-job fair for HVAC technicians, plumbers, carpenters, painters, construction helpers, custodians and grounds personnel, food service personnel, drivers/warehousemen, and more. SAISD offers pay increases for the 2023-2024 school year, shift work for multiple positions, low-cost health and dental benefits, and overtime opportunities.
 
Sept. 14 (Thurs) – CAST Imagines 
1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., CAST Med High School, 2601 Louis Bauer, 78235

CAST Med High School will launch CAST Imagines, an opportunity for students to gain a deeper understanding of San Antonio’s healthcare industry to imagine new possibilities for action. Topics may include cancer; healthcare access & insurance; heart disease, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory infections; homelessness; mental health with an emphasis on anxiety, depression, and self-image; nutrition; and healthy relationships and teen pregnancy.
