Sept 18 (Mon) – New sports park dedicated at Japhet Academy 
9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Japhet Academy, 310 Astor St., 78210 

A new sports park at Japhet Academy will be dedicated, becoming the 39th sports park created through a partnership led by San Antonio Sports. Since 2012, San Antonio Sports has led the effort to increase accessibility to green space in neighborhoods across the community by turning elementary and middle school property into facilities to be enjoyed by students during the school day and open to the community for exercise and recreation after school hours.

The SAISD Board of Trustees will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at the central administrative office.
 
Sept 18 (Mon) – Wilson Elementary Hispanic Heritage Parade 
3 p.m., Wilson Elementary, 1421 Clower St., 78201 

Wilson Elementary students and staff will be dressed in attire from Latin America countries as the campus hosts its annual Hispanic Heritage Month parade. The community is invited to join the festivities in front of the campus. 
 
Sept 20 (Wed) – SAISD Foundation “Book Buddies Bus” launch party
4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive, 78212

The SAISD Foundation and the SAISD Transportation department are collaborating to transform a school bus into a “Book Buddies Bus.” They are launching the “Book Buddies Bus” program during The Big Give. The “Book Buddies Bus” aims to improve literacy by giving away six free books to students when it tours district campuses. This initiative is crucial in countering holiday and summer learning gaps while nurturing a lifelong passion for reading. 
 
Sept 21 (Thurs) – SAISD Parent Institute - Instituto de padres de SAISD
8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive, 78212

The SAISD Dual Language, ESL and Migrant department is hosting a parent engagement event to "kick off" the 2023-24 school year. The goal is to empower parents with resources and information so that they can support their children’s learning at home. 

Sept 21 (Thurs) – Fox Tech High School President’s and Dean’s List Banquet 
5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Fox Tech High School, 637 N. Main Ave., 78205 

Fox Tech is hosting its President's and Dean's List Banquet to celebrate students who excel in their dual roles as a high school and college student. To make the President's List a student must maintain a 4.0 GPA, while completing at least 6 hours of college credit. Students making the Dean's List maintain a 3.5 GPA, while completing at least 6 hours of college credit. The dual credit program with San Antonio College gives students a start on their college future while they are still in high school.
 
Sept 22 (Fri) – SAISD Foundation “Book Buddies Bus” visits Storm Elementary
9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Storm Elementary, 435 Brady Blvd., 78207 

The SAISD Foundations’s Book Buddies Bus launches its inaugural tour. The bus will visit more than 25 schools throughout the year. During its first stop, Storm Elementary students will select six free books. The goal is to provide elementary students a book collection of at least four gently used books and two new books. Ultimately, the SAISD Foundation aims to donate more than 50,000 books to over 10,000 SAISD students this school year.
 
Sept 23 (Sat) – Harris Middle School 100 years celebration
8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Harris Middle School, 325 Pruitt Ave., 78204 

Six of the original SAISD junior high schools are celebrating their centennial this year. Harris Middle School originally opened its doors in 1923, and now is ready to celebrate a century of excellence and a future of possibilities. The historic campus is inviting the community to celebrate with student performances, school tours, food, music and a trip down memory lane.
