Sept. 18, 2023 – The San Antonio ISD Board of Trustees tonight heard the initial recommendation package proposed by staff to rightsize the district. The initial recommendation details the school buildings the district proposes to close, redesign, relocate, co-locate or merge in following school years. The district also identifies the receiving schools that will welcome new students and teachers as part of this proposed process. 

The district recommended that it close 19 schools – 17 for the 2024-25 school year, and two more in the 2025-2026 school year. The two delayed closings scheduled for 2025-2026 are the result of facility renovations through the bond program that are scheduled for the receiving schools. Additionally, the recommendation includes three school mergers, two grade re-configurations, one relocation and one co-location. As a result of the recommended scenarios, 23 campuses will welcome more students and teachers.

After an additional round of community engagement and input on the proposal, the board will vote on a final recommendation package on Monday, Nov. 13. During these meetings, the district will transparently discuss the specifics of how each facility was determined to be part of the recommendation package.
