SAISD provides Saturday update on school readiness; The district will be open and ready to accept students Monday, Jan. 22
01/20/2024
Jan. 20, 2024 – San Antonio ISD continues to work through the weekend to ensure its schools will open on Monday, Jan. 22.

In response to the districtwide heating system challenges, the district has executed a comprehensive and collaborative plan, deploying as many as 50 technicians a day, including district employees, contractors, temporary staff, and volunteers from other school districts and local government agencies. Organizations offering assistance include North East ISD, Lackland ISD, TDIndustries, Brandt, M-Tech, Gillette, Columbia Contracting, Maximum AC, and Mueller & Wilson.

“We are extremely grateful to the many contractors, city entities, and other school districts who joined our staff to restore our heating system,” Superintendent Jaime Aquino said. “This has allowed us to quickly initiate a comprehensive and collaborative effort on behalf of our students and educators.”

As of today, every school has had multiple visits and analyses. As part of a districtwide contingency plan, the district also has procured portable climate-controlled units.

The superintendent continues to be actively engaged, having individual conversations with every principal about the level of their campus readiness for Monday.

Additionally, as part of its reopening plan for Monday, the district continues to monitor and prepare for the weather on Monday morning.
