April 6 (Sat) – Hillcrest Elementary Autism Awareness 5K Walk/Run
7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Concepcion Park, 600 Theo Pkwy., 78210

The Hillcrest Run Club will be sponsoring a 5K to promote Autism Awareness in the community. Event partners and sponsors include San Antonio Parks & Recreation, the San Antonio River Authority, Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran, the San Antonio Foodbank, UT Health Confianza, Any Baby Can, Little Spurs Autism Centers and Morgan's Wonderland.
 
April 8 (Mon) – SAISD Solar Eclipse Watch Party at Nelson Wolff Stadium
10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Nelson Wolff Stadium, 5757 US-90, 78227

150 first-place classrooms from the SAISD fall Solar Eclipse Writing and Art Contests will be transported to Nelson Wolff Stadium for a solar eclipse watch party sponsored by the Alamo STEM Ecosystem partners, including the Witte Museum, the DoSeum and KLRN. The Office of Academics provided certified safety glasses for eclipse viewing. About 1,000 SAISD students in total will take part in this event.
 
April 8 (Mon) – Beacon Hill Dual Language Academy Solar Eclipse Watch Party
10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Beacon Hill Dual Language Academy, 1411 W. Ashby Pl., 78201

Beacon Hill Dual Language Academy is welcoming families to an all-campus solar eclipse watch party, including a DJ and picnic lunch. Kona Ice truck will provide cool drinks. Students in grades PK - 6 will create eclipse bracelets and glitter galaxies at activity stations manned by eighth grade students. Seventh graders will serve as "eclipse buddies" for students needing extra support.  The fun day will wrap up with an eclipse snack of mini moon pies and sun chips and a reflective writing activity.
 
April 8 (Mon) – Arnold Elementary Solar Eclipse picnic
Noon to 2 p.m., Arnold Elementary, 467 Freiling Drive, 78213

Arnold Elementary will be having a 2nd – 5th grade lunch picnic on campus hosted by the school PTA. The campus hopes to have at least one minute of totality since it is located so close to Balcones Heights.
 
April 8 (Mon) – Maverick Elementary Solar Eclipse picnic
1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Maverick Elementary, 107 Raliegh Pl., 78201

Maverick Elementary will be hosting a Solar Eclipse watch party for students on campus. Teachers have crafted fun and engaging science activities for students.

The SAISD Board of Trustees will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at the central administrative office. 
 
April 10 - 11 (Wed and Thurs) – “Ride the Bus” with SAISD 
6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Hot Wells MS, 400 Hot Wells Blvd., 78223

The SAISD Transportation Department invites families to see the planned 2024-25 bus routes for schools impacted by rightsizing at a series of ride-along events. At these events, parents and children will be able to board a school bus, see the safety features of the bus (seat belts, wifi, and cameras), and ride the actual route. The “Ride the Bus” program runs from March 25 through May 24, giving families ample time to explore the new routes for themselves. The full program schedule can be found here.

April 12 (Fri) – SAISD staff honored at Breakfast of Champions

A pair of SAISD Head Start Staff staff members will be honored by the San Antonio Chapter of the Texas Association for the Education of Young Children at the Breakfast of Champions at the KRLN Studios. Gregorio Vasquez, principal at Tynan Early Childhood Education Center, will be honored with the Administrator of Champions Award. Mayra Muniz, Bilingual Instructional Assistant at Knox Early Childhood Education Center, will be honored with the Champion in Early Childhood Award.
 
April 12 (Fri) – SAISD Senior Job Fair

SAISD’s College, Career & Military Readiness department is holding a student-focused job fair featuring SAISD departments, industry partners, military recruiters and local businesses that are ready to meet and hire the SAISD Class of 2024. Students will get free transportation to and from the event, opportunities to interview, and more.
 
April 12 (Fri) – Week of the Young Child Guest Readers at SAISD
Week of the Young Child is taking place from April 8-12. To celebrate this event, various guest readers from the City of San Antonio, to include the mayor and city council, will read to students across SAISD. The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The purpose is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the importance of Pre-K and Head Start services that meet those needs. Below are two guest readings for this week:
• 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., J.T. Brackenridge Elementary, 1214 Guadalupe St., 78207 - District 4 Councilwoman Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia.
• 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Madison Elementary, 2900 W. Woodlawn Ave., 78228 - District 7 Councilwoman Marina Alderete Gavito.
 
April 12 (Fri) – Author of “MexiKid’ visits Longfellow Middle School

The 12th annual San Antonio Book Festival happens this week. That brings bestselling authors to our city. Longfellow Middle School students will have a chance to meet author Pedro Martin, who wrote “MexiKid: A Graphic Memoir.” The Newberry Honor Award winner is an unforgettable graphic memoir about a Mexican American boy’s family and their adventure-filled road trip to bring their abuelito back from Mexico.
 
April 13 (Sat) – SAISD to hold Educator Career Fair to kick off Fiesta
9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Lanier High School, 1514 W. César E. Chávez Blvd., 78207

SAISD is kicking off Fiesta with its Educator Career Fair on April 13. The district is recruiting teachers, substitutes, instructional assistants and more. There will be on-site hiring and in-person interviews – plus mariachis, folklorico and Fiesta celebrations. SAISD offers teacher salaries starting at $57,500 with opportunities to earn up to $25K extra with the Master Teacher Initiative. Job seekers are encouraged to register early at https://www.saisd.net/FiestaJobFair.
