SAISD schools closing for one week; Central Office staff to report March 16, campus-based staff to await further instructions
March 13, 2020 – San Antonio ISD today announced that due to ongoing concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic, the District is extending spring break for students for one more week. Spring break is extended to include the dates Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20. Future weeks are still to be decided.
“SAISD is committed to making all decisions in the best interest of the health and safety of our students and staff, as well as the greater community,” said SAISD Superintendent Pedro Martinez. “Given the guidance we have from local and state officials, this is the best course of action at this time.”
The decision comes following discussions with Metro Health, the City of San Antonio, Texas Education Agency, peer school districts in the region, and upon the advice of medical experts.
The District will be reaching out to campus-based staff with further instructions. All Central Office staff are being asked to report to work on Monday, March 16 so as to be able to execute on essential functions related to food service and budget and to continue planning for remote learning, should that become necessary.
Updates will continue to be provided on the SAISD website at
