Norman named new head football coach at Brackenridge High School
02/24/2021

Feb. 24, 2021 – Larry Norman has been named head football coach and boys coordinator at Brackenridge High School.

Norman leaves Stevens High School in San Antonio where he served as the team’s Special Teams Coordinator. In 2020, he helped guide the Falcons to their first bi-district championship in 10 years. Norman’s special teams were ranked as the best in Northside ISD last fall. He inherits a Brackenridge Eagles team that has made the UIL state playoffs nine times in the last 11 years.

“I am excited,” said Norman, who has coached at six high schools in Texas, Nevada and Arizona. “I have always admired the Brackenridge program from the outside looking in. I got the call and found out I was the man for the job. I can’t wait to get started and meet the kids. My goal is to build on the foundation, the history and the tradition that is already there.

Norman will replace Willie Hall, a stalwart at Brackenridge High School and the second winningest coach in San Antonio ISD history with 147 wins.

“Huge shoes to fill,” said Norman, who also served as assistant head football coach for four years at South San Antonio High School. “Coach Hall has done an outstanding job there. It’s a tough gig when you follow somebody who is a legend. Change is inevitable. I’m not coming in to blow things up. I think it is important to build on things that are positive there and use that as a base to move forward.”

Norman’s plan is to run a high tempo offense and an attacking defense. Brackenridge will compete in District 13-5A-I. Other schools include Burbank, Edison, Highlands, Sam Houston, Jefferson, Lanier, Kennedy and Memorial.

Prior to becoming a football coach, Norman served 20 years in the United States Air Force as a flight commander.

"Coach Norman comes highly recommended by his peers and carries a proven history of successful leadership,” said Todd Howey, SAISD senior executive director of Athletics. “Larry will be a perfect fit for Brackenridge High School, and I have no doubt he will build on the great Eagle tradition that is already in place.”
