On Tuesday, April 13, the Citizens for Quality SAISD Schools, a Texas Political Action Committee, will present a $50,000 check on behalf of its donors to the SAISD Foundation in support of the teachers, students and programs funded by the foundation.

“These types of gifts are critical to our ability to respond to both the needs of our teachers and the innovation required to continue momentum in the San Antonio Independent School District,” said SAISD Foundation Judy Geelhoed. “Significant progress has been made by the District, and we are hyper focused on providing the tools teachers need to expand the student experiences that will help their students thrive.”

Rhodes Middle School will be the backdrop for this donation. Through their educator grant program, the SAISD Foundation had been supporting teachers at Rhodes with growth of their STEM programs including robotics, pre-engineering, broadcasting journalism, and their campus-based television station.

Mario Barrera, the committee’s co-chair, said that it’s important to provide this gift which can make an immediate impact on campuses like Rhodes through these grant programs.

“Citizens for Quality SAISD Schools believes in advocating for and supporting critical future improvements to school-based learning environments and opportunities for students in SAISD,” Barrera said. “Making this investment back into our schools and students through the SAISD Foundation is a natural fit to make an impact now.”

Since the money raised is a donation of funds raised from the community, Geelhoed said that these gifts are appreciated.

“A gift of this magnitude creates significant additional opportunities to support the requests we receive from teachers in SAISD to advance student success,” Geelhoed said.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to SAISD Foundation can do so on the Ways to Give section of its website: www.saisdfoundation.com/donate

As a 501(c)(3) public charity, the SAISD Foundation has invested nearly $30 million over the past 15 years in educator grants, student scholarships and emergency gap awards, and strategic investments in SAISD schools and District programs.
