San Antonio ISD seeks to fill advisory board to oversee historic Bond 2020 program; Applications being accepted through July 16
07/02/2021
July 2, 2021 – The San Antonio ISD Board of Trustees is seeking to fill a 24-member advisory committee that will oversee the work and progress on the historic Bond 2020 program. The $1.3 billion bond is addressing significant renovations and replacements for 36 campuses and providing technology upgrades to all SAISD schools.

The advisory board, called the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC), will be comprised of three members from each of the seven single-member districts of the Board of Trustees, plus three additional members to be appointed by Superintendent Pedro Martinez.

“This is an opportunity to engage our community with the new bond program as we match our facilities with our tremendous academic gains we’ve seen in the last few years,” said SAISD Board President Christina Martinez. “The work will bring new life to our schools. CAC meetings will be open to the public, and it is our hope that families and community members will attend these open meetings where updates will be given on the progress of the bond program.”

The Board of Trustees approved the CAC charter and the process by which applicants will submit their names to be considered for a seat at its June 21 meeting. According to the charter, two of the three members in each single-member district shall be residents of that single-member district. The third member may consist of a person who resides within SAISD boundaries overall, although they may still indeed be a resident of that single-member district.

The charter outlines the purpose of the CAC to inform and advise the Board. The committee will monitor Board-approved plans and processes directly related to the Bond 2020 program, which was approved by voters in November 2020, in order to encourage efficiency and compliance with the Board referendum approved by SAISD taxpayers. Members will offer feedback to District staff, review progress reports, and assist in providing information about bond projects to the community, among other duties.

The deadline to submit applications is July 16, 2021 by 5:30 p.m. Trustees will review all applications through July 30, and appointees will be announced at the Board's August meeting.

More information can be found on the Bond website. The application is available by clicking here or by emailing Sonia Canales, director of community relations, at scanales3@saisd.net.
