July 26, 2021 –San Antonio ISD is offering expanded access to early childhood programming for 3-year-olds. Campuses are now registering 3-year-olds for Pre-Kindergarten and Head Start to start school on the first day of classes on Monday, Aug. 9 on a space-available basis.   

“Our early childhood programs offer hands-on, personalized experiences that instill developmentally appropriate play, creative exploration and extend purposeful engagement beyond the classroom when outdoor learning opportunities take place on a daily basis,” said Aleida Pérez, director of Early Childhood Education and Head Start at SAISD. “SAISD has 57 schools open and ready for welcoming PreK3, PreK4, and Head Start students for next year.”

SAISD accepts Pre-Kindergarten applications for children living in Bexar County who will be 3 years old or 4 years old by Sept. 1 of the current school year. Families may enroll students in SAISD with zero tuition cost regardless of income history.  

SAISD is registering families of 3- and 4-year-olds interested in Head Start or Pre-Kindergarten at the following in-person recruitment events: 
 
• SAISD Back to School Resource Fair: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 31 at Freeman Coliseum Expo Hall (3201 E Houston St., San Antonio, Texas, 78219)

• San Antonio Back2School Expo: 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 7 at Gustafson Stadium (7001 Culebra Rd, San Antonio, Texas, 78238)
 
Families may also take an interactive, virtual classroom tour in English or in Spanish.

To register for Pre-Kindergarten, families can fill out the SAISD Pre-Kindergarten Application, call the Early Childhood Education/Head Start Department at (210) 554-2410, call the SAISD Enrollment Office at (210) 554-2660, or call the SAISD school in their neighborhood.
