In celebration of opening a new Burlington store in San Antonio, the retail chain is awarding Hot Wells Middle School a grant of $5,000 to use on technology and materials to boost student achievement.
The grant is made possible through Burlington’s partnership with the national non-profit organization, AdoptAClassroom. Representatives from AdoptAClassroom contacted the SAISD Foundation to help secure the $5,000 grant that teachers can use for new supplies for each teacher’s classroom. Burlington leaders say they are committed to supporting education through this partnership. Each time a store opens, Burlington celebrates by adopting and funding a local school in the area.
Dr. Rose Engelbrecht, principal at Hot Wells, says students and teachers have been doing their absolute best during the pandemic. With a few additional classroom tools, gaps in learning can be closed more quickly.
“We are a new school this year, and the extra help is greatly appreciated,” Engelbrecht said. “Students everywhere amaze me with their abilities, especially during a challenging time. We plan to purchase iPads and other materials related to science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.”
SAISD Foundation Executive Director Judy Geelhoed is happy to have facilitated the partnership.
“Our mission is to assist our teachers and students in any way we can,” Geelhoed said. “This year alone we are giving teachers more than $100,000 in innovative grant money to power their brainchild projects. We are so happy that Burlington chose one of our schools to award this $5,000 grant. It will be put to great use.”
The grant will be awarded to school leaders just before Burlington’s grand opening on Friday morning.
