Nathan GrafNathan Graf has been the Senior Executive Director of Transportation and Vehicle Maintenance for the San Antonio Independent School District since March 2017.  Mr. Graf earned a master’s degree in business administration (M.B.A.) from The University of Texas at Austin, earning the distinction of a Sord Honors Graduate.  He also earned a B.S. in Psychology from The University of Houston, graduating with Honors.  Mr. Graf served for 15 years in various management roles, each with increasing responsibility, for The Houston Independent School District (HISD); 9 of these years were in transportation.  Under his leadership both HISD and SAISD have earned many industry awards and recognition for the efficiency and effectiveness of their transportation services from organizations such as The Council of the Great City Schools, The 100 Best Fleets in the Americas, The City of Houston, The City of San Antonio, the Propane Education and Research Council, District Administration Magazine, Telly Awards, School Transportation News and School Bus Fleet Magazine. He has authored and managed many grants worth several million dollars to introduce propane school buses into both the HISD and SAISD fleets.  Since March 2017 about 40% of SAISD route buses are now fueled by propane and SAISD is the only school district in Bexar County to have 100% of route buses that have Wi-Fi, interior and exterior cameras, GPS, and a parent school bus tracking app.   Mr. Graf believes passionately in building a strong and energetic team that encourages innovative ideas that come to life such as the SAISD Rolling Reader Program, the School Bus Stop Arm Camera Program, the Clean Green Yellow School Bus Machines Program, and SAISD Eats Meal Delivery Buses.  Mr. Graf is also an active member with The Council of the Great City Schools performing annual operational reviews of other transportation departments across the nation. 

 

Katelyn SaenzKatelyn Saenz is the Director of Operations for the Transportation Department. Mrs. Saenz has over 16 years of work experience in the customer service, banking, and transportation industry. Mrs. Saenz joined the SAISD Transportation Team in 2017. Mrs. Saenz started with the department as a Dispatcher, advanced to a Route Coordinator, was promoted to the Route Supervisor, and is now the Director overseeing all of these roles. During her career with Transportation, Mrs. Saenz has successfully decreased the number of routes and increased ridership, to provide the most efficient transportation service to our students. Mrs. Saenz is responsible for overseeing over 140 school bus routes that provide service for general and special education students at all of our elementary, middle, and high schools.  Mrs. Saenz also oversees over 18,000 yearly field trips for every athletic and extracurricular program in the district. Mrs. Saenz has worked collaboratively with other departments to expand the services provided to students to include the Rolling Readers program, Technology distribution buses, the SAISD Eats food delivery program, Jump Start extended learning program, and the addition of 500 stops for the start of the 2021 school year. Due to Mrs. Saenz involvement with the SAISD Eats program that delivered meals to students during the district shut down, she was nominated and selected as one of 7 frontline workers to perform the role of Mother Ginger in the Ballet San Antonio’s performance of The Nutcracker in December 2021. Mrs. Saenz pride and dedication to her work comes from being a proud parent of 2 SAISD students.

 

Antonio CasanovaAntonio Casanova is the Director of Fleet Maintenance for the San Antonio Independent School District.  He is a proud graduate of Luther Burbank High School, in the San Antonio Independent School District. Mr. Casanova owned and operated his own automotive repair business for over 20 years in the San Antonio area before joining SAISD. In July 2008 Mr. Casanova started his career with the Transportation department as a bus driver and trainer. Mr. Casanova won first place in the Santex Bus Rodeo for SAISD 2010. Shortly after he was hired by the SAISD Vehicle Maintenance Department and after 4 years was promoted to Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor in 2014. Mr. Casanova oversees the maintenance of all 252 school buses and 300 district vehicles. Mr. Casanova was a key component in the success of the districts grants to purchase new propane buses which lead to the reduction of harmful emissions and operating costs. Mr. Casanova is active in the community working with organizations that provide donations and college scholarships for students.
