National Board Certification was designed to develop, retain, and recognize accomplished teachers, and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide. Created by teachers for teachers, the National Board Standards represent a consensus among educators about what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do.

SAISD's National Board Certification program is a two-year commitment of intensive learning designed to promote in-depth candidate reflection on their teaching practice. Candidate learning opportunities center around the four components of the National Board portfolio requirements; Content Knowledge, Differentiation in Instruction, Teaching Practice and Learning Environment, and Effective and Reflective Practitioner. Portfolio components are evaluated for evidence of accomplished teaching and student learning.
SAISD is committed to supporting teachers on their journey in becoming a National Board Certified teacher. Our two-year cohort program is designed to support teachers by providing mentorship, peer support, resources, professional development, and funding for certification fees. In addition, teachers who certify will earn a Recognized designation level assigned under the Texas Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA).
