SAISD is inviting its families and community members to relive the district’s traditional “Enchilada Wednesday” meal, complete with the district’s famous chocolate cake. The catch? Those in attendance will be asked to reflect on the district’s five-year strategic management plan, known as Always Learning

The event is titled “Always Learning: A Gathering of Community Voices.” It is the public engagement portion of the plan’s development.

SAISD’s draft plan and a survey for feedback are available online at www.saisd.net/alwayslearning. The survey is open through Feb. 13.

Always Learning is being developed in phases, with a focus on inclusiveness of all stakeholders.

In November 2022, district leadership spent three weeks building out the first draft.
In December 2022, a coaching team of more than 50 staff members from across campuses and the district began editing the draft, line by line.
Beginning Jan. 2, 2023, all district employees had the opportunity to review and provide feedback.
On Jan. 24, 2023, focus groups were held with more than 40 community members, including parents and representatives from local government, nonprofit groups, neighborhood organizations, businesses, and higher education institutions.
Now on Feb. 1, the district is bringing the plan forward for extensive feedback from its families and other community members.
Later, on Feb. 10, local and national leaders will weigh in on the plan.

The district’s intent is to be unprecedented in its scope of seeking feedback to ensure all voices are heard and reflected in the final plan.

Each section of Always Learning outlines how the district will meet the goals set by the SAISD Board of Trustees. The Always Learning sections are:

Our Students, Our Future
Our Staff, Our Strength
Our Organization, Our Heartbeat
Our Community, Our Familia

The final Always Learning plan, which will incorporate the gathered feedback, will be presented to the SAISD Board of Trustees at its board meeting on Monday, Feb. 27.

Moving forward, Always Learning will serve as a framework for how SAISD reports its progress to the community.
