February is Career and Technical Education Month. During this CTE recognition month, The Construction programs at Lanier and Sam Houston high schools are working with the San Antonio chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), a volunteer organization with a mission to provide twin beds and bedding to children. The collaboration involves three components: 
• Twin bed construction and donation events
• Twin “Bed in a Bag” bedding set and pillow drive
• Applications from SAISD families for the 40 donated beds 

Construction students from each high school and the nonprofit’s volunteers will blitz-build 20 twin beds in one morning at Sam Houston. Construction students at Lanier High School are constructing an additional 20 beds this month. A total of 40 twin beds will be donated to Sleep in Heavenly Peace. 

Interested individuals may participate in the project by contributing a “Bed in a Bag” twin set, which includes a comforter and sheets, and/or a pillow. The project goal is to collect enough “Bed in a Bag” sets and pillows for each of the 40 twin beds. 

The bedding is being collected at the following donation sites:
• SAISD Central Office lobby, 514 W. Quincy St., 78215
• Sam Houston High School, 4635 E. Houston St., 78220
• Lanier High School, 1514 W. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd., 78207

Families in need of beds for their children may apply for consideration through the Sleep in Heavenly Peace organization.
