Samantha Armijo
Brackenridge - Head Athletic Trainer

Samantha Armijo is a proud eagle graduate returning to her home of Brackenridge High School this year. After high school, she attended the University of the Incarnate Word where she graduated with her Bachelors of Science majoring in Athletic Training. During her time there, she was a student athletic trainer for football, women's soccer, men's basketball, swimming, and track. Samantha completed her last year at UIW interning for Alamo Heights High School.

Upon Graduation, Samantha became a Nationally Certified Athletic Trainer through the BOC as well as a Licensed Athletic Trainer in the state of Texas. Samantha immediately began working as a Contract Athletic Trainer for Sports Medicine Associated of San Antonio, or more recently, Methodist Sports Medicine, where she provided athletic training coverage for a variety of middle schools, high schools, and universities throughout Texas.

Samantha acted as a substitute Athletic Trainer for TMI in 2016 and spent a year as the Head Athletic Trainer for Bandera High School in 2017. Samantha met her husband, who is a Highlands High School alumni, while at UIW and they have two beautiful babies together. She spends her free time with her family watching her son play baseball or helping her daughter with her Baby Miss Texas duties.

William Marshall
Burbank - Head Athletic Trainer

Billy Marshall is a proud Class of 1986 graduate of Highlands High School in San Antonio, Texas. Billy attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He graduated from SWTSU with a Bachelor’s of Exercise and Sports Science, with a Major in Athletic Training in the spring of 1994. During his time at SWTSU as a Student Athletic Trainer, Billy covered various athletic teams and events, including football, baseball, tennis, softball and track & field. Billy is a Licensed Athletic Trainer by the State of Texas and certified to teach Sports Medicine I-IV. Billy has 24 years of experience in public education. During this period, he built Athletic Training programs and coached at Samuel Clemens HS (Schertz, TX), JW Nixon HS (Laredo, TX), Gonzales HS and Floresville HS, before returning to SAISD in 2017, where he is currently at Burbank HS. Billy feels being an Athletic Trainer in the high school setting allows him the opportunity to mentor and influence the lives of countless student trainers, athletes and coaches. In his free time, Billy enjoys reading, time with family and friends and time outdoors.

Mark Ruiz
Edison - Head Athletic Trainer

Dr. Mark Ruiz is a 1995 graduate of Highlands High School. He attended Southwest Texas State University. Mark Gradated in the spring of 2003 with a Bachelors of Exercise Sports Science, majoring in Athletic Training and minoring in Health and Wellness Promotion.  

Upon completing school, Mark went to work for the South Texas Regional Hospital covering Jourdanton High School athletics. In the spring of 2004, he was hired as interim Athletic Trainer for SAISD. He covered Fox Tech High School as his primary responsibility. In the summer of 2004, he was hired as an Athletic Trainer for Trinity University and Sports Medicine Associates of San Antonio to cover Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball and Track. He also held at this time a responsibility to check on St Anthony’s High School and Antonian College Preparatory. In the summer of 2005, Mark was asked to apply to Central Catholic High School. He was hired as a contract Athletic Trainer, until he made the position as full-time exempt employee. While at CCHS, Mark covered only boys’ sports, however had a few assignments such as Ballet San Antonio, Rock and Roll Marathon, and had some small administrative duties assigned to him at the school. Mark earned his master’s degree while employed at CCHS from UTSA in Health and Wellness Promotion and Management. Moved to SAISD in the fall of 2018 and has been at Edison since.  Additionally, he received his Doctor of Athletic Training from A.T. Still University, graduating in May 2023 with a focus in orthopedics and leadership.  

Mark is Certified by the NATA and Licensed by the State of Texas to Practice Athletic Training. 

Daniela Ovalle
Fox Tech - Head Athletic Trainer

Daniela Ovalle is a San Antonio native who graduated from Fox Tech High School in 2009. She attended San Antonio College where she received her certification as a nurse’s assistant. She worked in the Hospice setting for 4 years until she attended The University of the Incarnate Word and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training with a minor in Psychology in 2016. After graduating, she took a co-athletic training position at Gonzales High School for 1 year. She spent the next 5 years as a Head Athletic Trainer and teacher at Floresville High School. She now serves at Fox Tech, her alma mater, as an Athletic Trainer. La Techla!

Daniela and her husband have a beautiful 3 year old daughter and a Siamese cat. She spends her free time with them, enjoys baking, Cricut making, and being outdoors.

Jenny Therkelsen
Highlands and Houston - Head Athletic Trainer

Jenny Therkelsen comes to the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) from Austin, Texas. She is a proud graduate of The University of Texas at Austin (UT) where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. While working toward her undergraduate degree, Jenny was also a student athletic trainer for four different Longhorn teams—one of which won two national championships during her time of service. Jenny’s hands-on experience at UT inspired her to develop further her knowledge of and proficiency in massage therapy. She is now a Licensed Athletic Trainer (LAT) and a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT). As a licensed massage therapist, she has worked with many professional athletes as well as the track and field team at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and the women’s soccer team at Texas A&M.

Coming into the 2018-19 school year, Jenny is beginning her 14th year with SAISD. Her dedication to the safety and well-being of her student athletes has impacted many lives—including four former athletes who are now athletic trainers themselves. Additionally, many of Jenny’s first student athletes are now coaching at various schools in SAISD.

Jenny and her husband have one daughter. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking time-saver recipes, and spending time with family in Austin and Nebraska. She is also an avid fan of the Texas Longhorns and the New York Yankees. Hook ‘em!

Jacob Gonzales
Sam Houston - Head Athletic Trainer

Jacob Gonzales is a San Antonio native and a 98' graduate from SAISD's own Thomas Jefferson High School. After completing an internship with Texas Tech's Athletic Training Program as a student athletic trainer and graduating from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor's in Exercise and Sports Science with an emphasis in Athletic Training, Jacob was licensed by the state of Texas in 2002. Upon graduating, his career began with HealthSouth and then moved on to Cornerstone Christian High School as the Head Athletic Trainer. Jacob has also worked with the San Antonio Spurs Sports Programs as an Athletic Trainer. In 2005, he joined SAISD as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and was promoted in 2017 to Head Athletic Trainer for Sam Houston High School where he currently resides. During his time with SAISD, Jacob received a Masters of Arts and Administration degree from the University of the Incarnate Word in 2011.

Jacob is married, has four beautiful daughters, loves to travel, play golf, go fishing, and to barbecue.

Charles Young
Jefferson - Head Athletic Trainer

Charles Young is a proud Class of 1992 Samuel Clemens High School in Schertz Texas. Charles attended The University of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from UIW with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, with a Minor in Psychology in the fall of 2004. During his time at UIW as a Student Athletic Trainer, Charles covered various athletic teams and events, including, volleyball, baseball, basketball, and tennis. Charles is a Licensed Athletic Trainer by the State of Texas. Charles has 16 years of experience in public education. During this period, he built Athletic Training programs at Laredo Alexandra HS (Laredo, Tx), and Austin Johnson (Austin, Tx), before coming to “THE” Thomas Jefferson HS. Charles has also work for the Boys Region 3 Olympic Development Program, South Texas Youth Soccer Association, Spurs Sports and Entertainment, United States Women’s National Soccer Team, Red Bull 7 on 7 league and the San Antonio Soccer Association. Charles enjoys fishing, camping, and cooking.

Robert White
Lanier - Head Athletic Trainer

Rob White is a 2000 graduate of Lytle High School. After high school Rob spent 2 years at Southwest Texas University before transferring to the University of the Incarnate Word where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training in the summer of 2005. Rob also attained his licensure in Athletic Training in the summer of 2005 and served as the Head Athletic Trainer for Gonzales High School for 2 years while subsequently attaining his national certification from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association before moving to Laredo where he served as Co-Athletic Trainer for United South High School for the next 6 years. He was presented the opportunity to go back to school for a master’s degree at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM in 2013. He spent 2 years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer working with both the NMSU football team and men’s tennis team. At the completion of his 2 years, he had earned his Master’s of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction and took a job as Co-Athletic Trainer at Lehman High School in Kyle, TX where he spent the next 6 years. After his time in Kyle Rob made the move to SAISD where he now serves as the Head Athletic Trainer for Lanier High School. GO VOKS!

Rob married his wife Kristin in June of 2020. They welcomed their first child, Harrison, in January of 2022. They currently reside in Schertz, TX with their 2 dogs Bailey and Jackson.

When not at work Rob enjoys BBQing any chance he gets as well as spending time with family and summer trips to the river and beach

Casey Ovalle
Young Men's Leadership Academy - Head Athletic Trainer

Casey graduated in 2005 from Edison High School and attended San Antonio college where he received his certificate under nursing assistant. Casey worked in the hospital setting as a medical surgical tech and in hospice for over 10 years. In 2016 he attended the University of the Incarnate Word where he received his bachelor's degree in sports medicine. After graduating Casey took a position as a contract Athletic Trainer for Methodist sports medicine. In the fall of 2021 Casey started as the Head Athletic Trainer for Young Men's Leadership Academy. His hobbies include spending time with his wife and daughter, hiking, kayaking, camping, and gaming. 

Analisa Arguello
Young Women's Leadership Academy - Head Athletic Trainer

Analisa Arguello is a San Antonio native and graduate of Incarnate Word High School. Analisa completed her undergraduate education at Boston University, graduating with a B.S. in Health Science in 2019. She went on to earn her Master of Athletic Training from Hardin-Simmons University in 2021. During her education Analisa completed internships with M.I.T, Tuft’s, Boston College, Abilene Christian University and Shannon Sports Medicine. Analisa is a licensed Athletic Trainer by the state of Texas. Analisa currently works as the Head Athletic Trainer at the Young Women’s Leadership Academy, where she has been since 2021. In her free time Analisa serves as a senior staff member with the National Hispanic Institute, where she spends her summers working with volunteers to run leadership programs for Hispanic high schoolers from around the world. She also enjoys spending time with her two dogs, exercising, and watching rugby.

Georgina Garcia
Brackenridge & Burbank - Assistant Athletic Trainer

Georgina Garcia is a San Antonio native and has been practicing Athletic Training since her graduation from the University of the Incarnate Word in 2015, where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training, with a Minor in Psychology. Upon graduating, she began her career as an Athletic Trainer for The International Sports Training Camp in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. Soon after, she returned to Texas and started working as an Athletic Trainer and Preceptor at the University of Texas in Austin. While working in Austin she had the opportunity to work with Formula One Athletes, The Bold Soccer team, and UT Division 1 Recreational Sports Programs. An opportunity was extended to her to become an Injury Prevention Specialist/Safety Manger in San Antonio.  Georgina became interested in preventive medicine and decided to become an Industrial Athletic Trainer. During her time as an IPS she created Ergonomic and Safety programs that were incorporated into warehouses along the Rittman Road Industrial District. She currently works at Brackenridge High School and Burbank High School as an Assistant Athletic Trainer.  

 

Georgina loves to spend time outside of work with her partner, friends, and family traveling, thrifting, trying new recipes, bike riding, and taking photographs with retro cameras.  

Alexander May
Edison and Jefferson - Assistant Athletic Trainer

Alexandra "Alex" May is entering her first year at SAISD. She is the Assistant Athletic Trainer for Thomas Edison and Thomas Jefferson High Schools. She graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word, where she got her Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training. She is currently in her second year of her Masters in Kinesiology, Sport and Recreation. Alex worked at Hardin-Simmons University as a Graduate Assistant, where she is still pursuing her Masters. She was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, and graduated from Churchill High School. Her hobbies are spending time with her family, watching basketball and fishing.

Camile Crawford 
Highlands and Houston - Assistant Athletic Trainer

Camile is a Licensed and Certified Athletic Trainer from San Antonio. She is a proud graduate of Judson High School in Converse, Texas. Camile attended Baylor University and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training. While at Baylor, she worked with the football, women’s basketball, baseball and track and field teams. She was also an Intern Athletic Trainer for the WNBA San Antonio Silver Stars for 6 years during her undergraduate coursework. Upon graduation, she began working as an Athletic Trainer at South San Antonio High school. In 2017, Camile was hired as the Head Athletic Trainer for the WNBA San Antonio Stars. She returned to the high school setting and is now currently working as the Assistant Athletic Trainer for Highlands and Sam Houston High School. She enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.

Mollie Ayala
Lanier and YWLA  - Assistant Athletic Trainer

Mollie Ayala is a proud alumni and community member of SAISD. She graduated from Highlands HS in 2005. In 2009, Mollie graduated cum laude from Texas State University- San Marcos with a Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training. Mollie is both a state licensed and nationally certified athletic trainer. Mollie has 15 years of experience in the secondary athletic training setting. She spent 4 years as an athletic trainer and teacher at Southside HS in Southside ISD from 2009-2013. In 2013, Mollie joined the SAISD athletic training staff as the assistant athletic trainer for Lanier HS.  She enjoys spending time with her children, reading, thrifting, and road tripping around the country.
