My favorite childhood memory has always been family gatherings.  I remember we had our first family reunion with my mom’s side of the family. We had a huge potluck. We introduced ourselves and our families. We were all wearing the family reunion shirts. We met family members we had never met. It was so much fun and there was so much history. I loved being able to share that moment with my kids, that was the icing on the cake. 

What are your hobbies? 
I love to cook.

Why do you enjoy working with families? 
I love to see smiling families when they see a positive behavior change with their kids at the end of the school day. I love helping families with food and resources to help keep a positive atmosphere at home. I love helping parents learn to advocate for themselves and their families is priceless and rewarding.

Driving to Santa Fe with my family and other summer family vacations.

I am a tech junkie. I collect and tinker with synthesizers and electronic music equipment. I also like to run and swim.

I am particularly fond of our Saturday’s mornings walking behind my dad carrying along a “diablito” which is a folding card. It was full of bags packed with vegetables and fruits while my mother led the way through colorful and fragrant vendors shouting “Llévele, Llévele, Llévele” while extending her arms with delicious queso Oaxaca, juicy watermelons, or slices of oranges.

What are your hobbies? 
Learning more about sustainability, the environment, and eating. I love food.

Why do you enjoy working with families? 
I enjoy problem solving, facilitating processes, and supporting our society. Through the F.A.C.E. Department I can address these three interests and have a positive impact -more often than not- in a whole family, sometimes with children in different schools and grades.

What’s your favorite childhood memory? 
My favorite childhood memories are going to my grandparents' house for Christmas and New Years. Seeing my parents and family members getting ready for the night celebration by making food, decorating, and setting up speakers for the entertainment part was always something I looked forward to as a child.

What are your hobbies? 
My favorite hobbies are decorating and doing interior designs. I also enjoy planting and fixing my yard to some awesome music. 

Why do you enjoy working with families? 
I like working with families because I feel identified as a parent since I have four children of my own. I understand first-hand the needs and help they might have. It brings me joy when I look at their faces of relief when they know that we are here to guide and help them in any way possible.

My favorite childhood memory was going to my annual family reunion. Every year, we would get together with my entire family and catch up on lost time, enjoy food and games, meet new family members, and enjoy each other's time. Our reunions would take place all over the world, so each year I looked forward to finding out where our next  reunion would be.

Why do you enjoy working with families?
I enjoy working with families because I am a big family person myself. I love to learn about different cultures and perspectives from different families because no family is the same. I strongly believe that it takes a village to help raise a child and working with families directly is the first step. My parents were passionate about everything they did. Watching them work in the community and with families influenced me to follow their footsteps. I want to be able to help families the same way they did; and be successful at it.

My mother worked two jobs while I was growing up and she was never able to attend any school functions. I know how I longed for the day that she could be there for me. When I became a parent, I tried to be as involved as I could. I know that as a parent, it can be scary walking into a school, wanting to get involved but not knowing how or what I could be doing. I love having the opportunity to assist our families in feeling welcomed and learning how they can be involved so that, together, we can assist their children with their academic success.

I think it would have to be our family barbecues, with my dad at the grill and so many cousins running around. I don’t have specific memories of what games we played, just that it was fun to be around my family and friends.

I enjoy reading, birdwatching and gardening. I have also become quite capable with DIY home improvement projects.

As we’ve heard, it takes a village. This means that raising a successful student involves not just your family but your community: your school, your church, and your friends.
