SAISD Guideline for CPR Training for Students:

House Bill 897- The State Board of Education by rule shall require instruction in cardiopulmonary resuscitation for students in grades 7th through 12th grade.  The instruction may be provided as a part of any course.  A student shall receive the instruction as least once before graduation.  For purpose of subsection (e), “psychomotor skills” means hands-on practice to support cognitive learning.

To stay in compliance with this law and capture all of our scholars we are placing CPR awareness training in all our Physical Education courses from 7th-12th grade and Biology courses. The Health and Physical Education and Science Department have collaborated to bring this awareness to all scholars in SAISD.

FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

1. Bring out your CPR bag with your manikins and inflate them all. Each bag contains 10 manikins.

2. Group scholars in pairs and place one manikin to use.

3. Scholars will take turns doing compressions on the manikin, making sure you hear the clicks (each will do 30 compressions and switch).

4. Instruct scholars using the CPR Awareness Presentation.

Every High School Biology teacher received 3 sets of CPR manikins, and each high school physical education teacher has 1 set of these you can borrow. If you are needing help locating your manikins or can’t get a hold of the physical education teacher manikins, please email rsalazar@saisd.net.
