Pathway out of the pandemic - Nov. 4, 2021
11/04/2021
Dear SAISD Family Member,

We hope you are enjoying a “Terrific Thursday” across our 79 square miles of excellence. Henry Ford once stated, “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”

Throughout this pandemic SAISD has served as a positive voice for COVID-19 vaccines. We saw early on that vaccination was our pathway out of the pandemic and getting our students back into our classrooms. Now that the vaccine is available for our elementary school children, we are incredibly encouraged for the opportunity to make our classrooms an even safer environment to learn, grow, develop, and dream.

This week’s announcement from the CDC authorizing the Pfizer vaccine for use in children ages 5-11 is a tremendous step forward in our fight against the virus. In the coming days and weeks, we will continue to partner with our healthcare providers and other SAISD stakeholders, as our youngest learners across the district become vaccinated and protected. We will also continue to offer vaccines for all eligible ages, as well as booster shots – as early as next week – for those staff members who prefer to receive this service.

It has been a long, rewarding journey since we started this incredible quest to provide COVID-19 vaccinations. What we’ve done so far as a community – masking, distancing, weekly testing, and vaccinating – has been extremely successful and has kept us safe.

Our district and county positivity rates are falling dramatically. We are experiencing a 0.3% rate in SAISD, and San Antonio is witnessing a 1.6% rate. This is particularly important because it keeps our schools and offices safe, it brings our children into classrooms for the best possible learning experience, and it also reduces the number of people needing to quarantine. This all leads to giving our families confidence and stability, which is something we all need to experience for this current school year.

On behalf of our Board of Trustees and the entire SAISD, thank you for leading with us and for believing in us, as we endure the anguish of this pandemic. We will always fight to protect our SAISD Family, and we appreciate your commitment in making the development and academic growth of our children your highest priority. We truly appreciate you and all that you do!

Sincerely,

"Dr. J"
