Counting our blessings - Nov. 19, 2021
11/19/2021

Dear SAISD Family Member,

With the Thanksgiving holidays approaching, it is a wonderful opportunity for us to reflect on the many blessings we enjoy as individuals and as a school district. First and foremost, we are extremely grateful to all of our SAISD family members for your commitment and dedication to providing our students with a future of hope and endless possibilities. Your focus on every child, every classroom, every day allows us to serve as a positive force of change in the lives of our students and in our community.

A perfect example of the power of positive change can be found in the efforts of our SAISD Foundation. For more than a decade, they have been cultivating relationships with community members and partners across our 79 square miles of excellence.

These relationships have been the catalyst to building a legacy that will forever affect the landscape of our school district. Tens of thousands of SAISD students have benefitted directly from the implementation of Innovative Grants, new teacher grants, and mini grants.

The primary purpose of the SAISD Foundation is to enrich teaching, inspire learning, and enhance opportunities for students to become contributing members of our society. These resources are invested in ways that allow SAISD educators to go above and beyond their normal classroom experiences, to spark the imagination of students, and to build broad-based community support for SAISD public schools.

The mission of the SAISD Foundation is to mobilize the community to invest in student and teacher success. Please join me in thanking the SAISD Foundation for their outstanding efforts in supporting the hopes and dreams of the students who sit in our classrooms, the graduates who walk our stage, the families who wish for something more, and the teachers and staff who make this all possible.

Abraham Lincoln once stated, “In the end, it is not the years in your life that count. It is the life in your years.” As we experience the Thanksgiving season, let us take a moment to reflect on our lives and the things that are most important to us.

Imagine life as a game in which you are required to keep five balls juggling in the air. Let’s name these five balls: work, family, health, friends, and spirit. You soon realize that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce right back up. However, the other four balls - family, health, friends, and spirit - are made of glass. If you drop one of these balls, they will become irrevocably scuffed, nicked, damaged, or even shattered. They may never be the same again.

During this holiday season, let us take time to slow down and understand how this truly pertains to us. Let us take this time to revisit our family, health, friends, spirit, and many blessings. Let us not take for granted the things that are closest to our heart because these are the things that make life meaningful.

On behalf of our Board of Trustees and the entire school district, thank you for making us “SAISD Proud” and Happy Thanksgiving.

We truly appreciate you!
