Shake it Off and Step Up - Feb. 4, 2022
02/04/2022
Dear SAISD Family Member,

Each and every day, we are faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as difficult situations. We identify these opportunities as defining moments. The insight gained from embracing these moments provides us with the knowledge and expertise to make the right decisions and positively move forward as a school district.

Rich Devos once stated, “The only things that stand between a person and what they want in life is the will to try it and the faith to believe it is possible.”

It has also been said that in the winds of change, we can find our true direction.

The parable “Shake it Off and Step Up” is a wonderful example of the winds of change and the will to overcome adversity.

A farmer owned an old mule that fell into a well. After assessing the situation, the farmer reluctantly determined that neither the mule nor the well was worth saving. So, he called his neighbors together and enlisted them to help bury the mule in the well.

Initially, the mule was frantic, but as the dirt kept hitting his back, something happened. It dawned on the mule that every time a shovel of dirt landed on his back, he would say “shake it off and step up.”

This he did, time after time. “Shake it off and step up…shake it off and step up…No matter how painful the blows or how distressing the situation, the mule fought through the panic and just kept on shaking it off and stepping up.

Before too long, the mule had triumphantly stepped through the mouth of the well. What seemed like an impossible situation, actually helped him, all because of how he handled adversity.

As we encounter the unremitting challenges of the pandemic, unpredictable weather, student enrollment and attendance concerns, let us not forget who we are and what we do. We are SAISD Strong, and nothing can stop us from shaking it off and stepping up as we embrace our challenges with hope, determination, and great expectations.

On behalf of our Board of Trustees and the entire school district, thank you for your unwavering commitment to always do things right and to always do the right thing.

We truly appreciate you and all that you do.

Have a wonderful weekend.
