SAISD Proud - Feb. 18, 2022
02/18/2022
Dear SAISD Family Member,

In SAISD, we are committed to “Achieving Excellence” for all students, faculty, and staff. We also believe that the power of our school district lies deep within our people, and we have within us the power and the passion to offer our students the quality of education they so richly deserve.

During the last five months, I have had the honor and privilege to witness this power on a daily basis. It is clearly evident that we have incredible SAISD family members who work tirelessly to provide a future of hope and endless possibilities for every child, every classroom, every day.

It is also evident that our students and staff are like dynamite. All the power is on the inside, and nothing can happen until the fuse is lit. I am so proud to mention that across our 79 square miles of excellence, we do not focus on lighting the fire underneath our people, we believe it is our responsibility to cultivate the fire within them.

A wonderful example of this “fire” can be found in the recent recognition of our Child Nutrition Services Department by the No Kid Hungry organization. SAISD is the third school district in the nation and the first school district in Texas to be acknowledged for this outstanding achievement.

The statement listed below is an excerpt from our letter of congratulations:

San Antonio ISD was selected out of hundreds of school districts in Texas for their exceptional child nutrition program, which serves as an exemplary model for best practices and innovation towards feeding children. San Antonio ISD offers free breakfast and lunch for all students, and continued to innovate even during a global pandemic, serving thousands of meals to students every day when schools and businesses were forced to close in 2020. San Antonio ISD will be the third Spotlight School District in the nation for the No Kid Hungry Campaign and will be the first Spotlight School District in Texas.

We are extremely proud of our Child Nutrition Services Department, led by Senior Executive Director Jenny Arredondo, for taking the risk of being great.

Great school districts must care as much about values as they do about victory, as much about purpose as they do about profit and as much about being effective as they do about being successful. Your commitment and dedication to these beliefs has propelled SAISD to go beyond the ordinary on behalf of our students and families and receive state and national recognition as a true model for success.

Robert Louis Stevenson once stated, “To be what we are and to become what we are capable of becoming is the only end in life.”

On behalf of our Board of Trustees and our entire SAISD Family, we extend our sincere appreciation for your positive attitude and your willingness to make a difference in the lives of our students. Each day you serve as a guiding light for all those in need, and remind us daily, you don’t have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great.

Have a fantastic Friday and a wonderful weekend.
