Dear SAISD Family Member, 
 
As I travel across our 79 square miles of excellence, I am always amazed by the passion, commitment, and dedication that you display to our students, families, and especially, toward each other. 
 
When describing the power of SAISD, I am reminded of the words of Anatole France, who once stated, “To accomplish great things we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.”
 
We have much to celebrate this week, and we are especially proud to showcase one of our latest accomplishments and achievements.
 
Just before the pandemic arrived, Dr. Ken Thompson and our amazing Technology Department, began the formation of a five-year strategic plan to become a one-to-one device school district and to create a “Learning Everywhere” model across the San Antonio ISD. 
 
They branded this new initiative, the “Light-House” Model. This innovative undertaking would provide every school with an interactive board in every classroom, an audio system, light-speed internet, upgraded wireless connectivity, and upgraded switches. Furthermore, this bold vision would provide professional campus staff with state-of-the-art technology and deliver a continuous instructional experience for all.  
 
A key component of the Light House model was to ensure every student within SAISD had their own dedicated one-to-one device as soon as possible. Our Technology Department refused to let the pandemic decelerate their vision and quickly accelerated the one-to-one device initiative from a four-year time frame to an incredible four-month implementation. 
 
As of today, SAISD has gone through Light House 1.0 in regard to updating our technology in its first wave of schools, as well as providing each student within SAISD their own dedicated device. 
 
Currently, the Technology Department is finalizing the implementation of Light House 2.0 and during the 2022-2023 school year, they are well positioned to implement Light House 3.0. The completion of Light House 3.0 will complete this courageous task and ensure that every student will have access to current, up-to-date technology for both home and school use. 
 
Robert Louis Stevenson once stated, “To be what we are and to become what we are capable of becoming is the only end in life.” 
 
On behalf of our Board of Trustees and our entire SAISD Family, we extend our sincere appreciation to our exceptional Technology Department for their willingness to make a difference in the lives of our students. 
 
It has been said that people with great hearts and minds never have to fear what lies ahead, for their hearts and minds determine the quality of their future. It is clearly evident that the future of SAISD is in great hands because of YOU!
