Dear SAISD Familia:

We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding last week’s weather days, when we closed our schools and offices on Tuesday, Jan. 31 and Wednesday, Feb. 1. Weather is unpredictable, yet we use information we have at the time to make the best and safest decision we can. The safety and well-being of our staff and students is always uppermost in our minds.

At the Feb. 13 Board meeting, we are recommending to our Board of Trustees that these days not be made up. We are proposing that all permanent, full-time employees and any other regularly established positions be compensated for these days. Additionally, we are requesting that specified essential employees who are non-exempt and were required to report to work during the emergency closure(s) be compensated for their time. We are extremely appreciative to these employees, as they ensured meal services for our families, provided the necessary security for our properties, and made certain our facilities would be up and running for the return of our students and staff.

My wish for all of you is that you are able to rest and recharge during the President’s Day holiday.
