Dear SAISD Staff:
SAISD is committed to making all decisions in the best interest of the
health and safety of our students and staff, as well as the larger
community. As a precaution, we have made the difficult decision to close
schools for students at all SAISD schools through Friday, March 20.
This was not an easy decision for us to make, but we are doing so on the
advice of medical experts and following discussions with the
Metropolitan Department of Health, the City of San Antonio, Texas
Education Agency and our peer school districts in the region.
On Monday, March 16, campuses will continue to be staffed with minimal employees in
case families need to call with questions. These staff members are
principals and assistant principals, as well as secretaries, family and
community engagement specialists, nurses, counselors and custodians. We
may not need these employees for the full week; Patti Salzmann will work
with the Assistant Superintendents to assess needs as the week
progresses.
Additionally, Central Office staff members will report to work on Monday, March 16 – this includes employees who work 230 and 245 days per year.
Please know that next week’s payroll has been completed, so there will
be no disruption For other campus-based staff, we are diligently working
with the state to ensure employees do not experience a pay disruption
as a result of these school closures.
Your assistance will be needed as we prepare to assist families during
the extended break and prepare to resume instruction on Monday, March
23. We are diligently preparing should we need to pursue remote
learning.
As always, please use your best judgement. If you are sick, or have
concerns with being immunocompromised, please stay home and call your
supervisor to let them know.
Also, if you traveled over spring break, especially to areas that had
community spread of COVID-19, we ask that you voluntarily self-report
using this form: https://forms.gle/grY1MoAQieP5ZWDW7
A few more items of note:
? The SAT test that is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, March 14, will continue.
? Athletics, fine arts and other extracurriculars have been suspended beginning today and for the week of March 16.
? Food service will be provided remotely during the closure. More details will be provided via the website.
We will continue to keep you informed as more decisions are made on how we move forward with this unprecedented situation.
Thank you for your support as we continue to strive to make decisions to
best protect the health and wellness of our families and employees.
Sincerely,
Pedro
