Dear Families and Staff:
Our hearts are heavy. We all are grieving today as we learn about the death of one of our students who was shot off campus after dismissal at Brewer Academy. It is with even greater sorrow that I share with you that the student did not survive. The pain is immense. It is inconceivable and senseless to lose a child in this tragic way, and we lift up his family at this very difficult time.
We, too, grieve and we will come together as a family to mourn the loss of this child. We will have counselors on the Brewer campus tomorrow, and at any point in the future, to help students and staff process this heart wrenching news. We also stand ready to assist any student or staff member in the district, however you might need us. We are here for you.
As parents and caregivers, it’s only natural to want to guard and protect our loved ones and to seek reassurance that their safety is paramount. Please know that SAISD is committed to the safety and security of our students and employees at all of our campuses. Our police and school administration remain vigilant, and we are enhancing our police presence around our schools – and working with all law enforcement agencies to do so.
I am incredibly sorry to have to bring you this news. At this time, let’s bring our minds and hearts together to send strength and comfort to everyone affected by today’s tragic event.

Estimadas familias y personal:
Sentimos un peso en el corazón. Estamos hoy todos de luto al enteramos de la muerte de uno de nuestros estudiantes que recibió un disparo fuera del campus después de la hora de la salida en Brewer Academy. Con gran pesar comparto con ustedes que el estudiante no sobrevivió. El dolor es inmenso. Es desconcertante e insensato perder a un hijo de esta manera tan trágica, y acompañamos a su familia en estos momentos tan difíciles.
Nosotros también estamos de luto y nos uniremos en familia para lamentar la pérdida de este niño. Tendremos consejeros en el campus de Brewer mañana, y en el futuro, para ayudar a los estudiantes y el personal a procesar estas noticias desgarradoras. También estamos listos para ayudar a cualquier estudiante o miembro del personal en el distrito, sea cual sea la forma en que seamos necesitados. Estamos aquí para ustedes.
Como padres y cuidadores, es natural querer cuidar y proteger a nuestros seres queridos y buscar la certeza de que su seguridad es primordial. SAISD está comprometido a la seguridad y el bienestar de nuestros estudiantes, empleados y visitantes en todas nuestras escuelas. Nuestra policía y la administración escolar permanecen vigilantes, y estamos mejorando nuestra presencia policial a los alrededores de nuestras escuelas y para ello colaboramos con todas las agencias policiales.
Siento muchísimo tener que darles esta noticia. Unamos nuestras mentes y corazones para enviar fortaleza y consuelo a todas las personas afectadas por el terrible acontecimiento de hoy.
