Distance learning to continue through the end of the school year - April 17, 2020
04/17/2020
Dear SAISD Staff:

SAISD schools will continue distancing learning, following the 2019-20 instructional calendar, which ends Wednesday, May 27. This is in accordance with Gov. Greg Abbott’s announcement today that all Texas school buildings will remain closed for in-person student instruction this school year.

Be assured that we will continue to connect with students in online learning, providing the academic support needed to continue their studies. We will be posting more information next week about graduations and resources for seniors, including summer programs for those who need them.

Please also help us share with our families two new opportunities to access free Wi-Fi.

VIA Metropolitan Transit is providing mobile, high-speed Wi-Fi service to students at various locations in the city. Equipped VIAtrans vans will provide network service to cars parked within a range of 100 to 200 feet. This is part of their VIA Cares program and is a collaborative effort between VIA, the city, the San Antonio Housing Authority, Northside ISD and us. A fixed daily schedule with locations is available online at www.VIAinfo.net/cares

Additionally, beginning Monday, April 20, the AT&T Center is turning Lot 3 into a Park and Learn to provide another connectivity option to students. Free Wi-Fi will be provided from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. every day until further notice, courtesy of Spurs Give, AT&T and Aruba Networks. The lot will have cones in every other parking space to ensure social distancing, and students may search for the “spursgive” network to connect.

As always, we will continue to provide our students healthy meals, counseling support, and to connect them with vital community resources.

Please stay safe and healthy.

Sincerely,
Pedro
