COVID-19 update for our District - Dec. 7, 2020
12/07/2020

Dear SAISD Staff:

Earlier this evening, our local officials announced that the COVID-19 positivity rate has increased above 15% for Bexar County.

While this is undoubtedly concerning, we are fortunate to know that our District’s current recorded positivity rate is less than 1%. We know this because of the COVID-19 testing programs we have put into effect. Frequent testing is critical to quick identification of silent spreaders, quick treatment for reduced severity of infection, and immediate isolation to avoid spread. We are seeing the benefits of our testing program, and we are at least comforted by that fact.

In an effort to maintain the health and safety of our staff and students, we are asking principals to pause the phasing in of any additional students beyond those who have been approved for this week until after our winter break. We will, of course, continue to serve those who already are receiving in-person instruction and will work alongside parents to determine what is best for their children. Limiting the number of students on campus will allow us to continue to reinforce the safety protocols that have contributed to our low in-school positivity rate, such as social distancing, the use of face masks, and frequent handwashing.

Please know we are committed to our testing initiative and all of our safety protocols, which we will continue throughout this school year.

Because of our commitment – and your commitment – to strict safety procedures, we have been able to keep the positivity rate within our District low. Thank you for your partnership in our efforts to minimize the spread of the virus.

Sincerely,
Pedro
