The Trustees and I understand the stress employees have been under as a result of the pandemic, followed by last week’s extreme winter weather event – and we know some of you are still dealing with the aftermath. 
 
Please know that I intend to submit a waiver to the Board of Trustees and the Texas Education Agency so that our students and staff do not have to make up these days because of the statewide disaster. The waiver request will be on the agenda for next week’s Board meeting. In addition, I will ask the Board to allow us to compensate essential staff through time off because they reported to work during the school closure.
 
We already have an intercession week planned for the week following spring break. This will be the time for students to opt in for targeted activities and extra support, led by educators who volunteer and are compensated for this role. We spoke to our parent advisory group today, and they support the waiver, giving their children the option to participate in the intercession week instead of making up the inclement weather days.
 
I know how difficult this school year has been on staff, students, and families. My wish for all of you is that you are able to rest and recharge during spring break and any other upcoming breaks in the approved instructional calendar.
