Exceptional educators - Oct. 1, 2021
10/01/2021
Dear SAISD Family Member,

As I travel across our outstanding school district, I am constantly amazed by the level of talent that I encounter with each and every visit. I have witnessed firsthand how our exceptional staff members are working to provide our students and families with the quality of education they so richly deserve. This quality of education must first and foremost begin with the quality of our teachers. In SAISD, we believe the best teachers teach from the heart, and we are extremely grateful to our amazing teachers who educate, nurture, build character, and provide compassion for every child in every classroom, on every day. Our teachers also serve as excellent role models and invest countless hours preparing lessons, tutoring students, and volunteering for extracurricular events. As we continue to pursue quality applicants to fulfill this expectation of excellence, I am reminded of a poem whose author is unknown, called “Whose Child is This?”

“Whose child is this? I asked one day, seeing a little one out at play. Mine, said the parent with a tender smile. Mine to keep for a little while. To bathe his hands and comb his hair, to tell him what he is to wear. To prepare him that he may always be good, and each day to do the things he should.

“Whose child is this? I asked again, as the door opened, and someone came in. Mine said the teacher with the same tender smile. Mine to keep for just a little while. To teach him how to be gentle and kind. To train and direct his dear little mind. To help him live by every rule and to get the best he can from school.

“Whose child is this? I asked once more, just as the little one entered the door. Ours said the parent and the teacher as they smiled. Then each took the hand of the little child. ‘Ours to love and train together. Ours is this blessed task forever.’”

In SAISD, we believe that nothing great can be created suddenly. And we truly appreciate all of your support. By working together, we will continue to plan and cultivate a system of excellence across our 79 square miles. On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the entire SAISD, thank you for reminding us that progress always involves risks, and that we cannot become what we need to be by remaining what we are.

Have a “Fantastic Friday.”
