Mask mandate update - Oct. 15, 2021
10/15/2021
Dear SAISD Family Member,

We hope you are enjoying a “Fantastic Friday” across our “79 Square Miles of Excellence.” We also recognize that you may desire more information regarding the Texas Supreme Court ruling on our employee vaccine mandate, what that ruling means for you, and what steps the district will take next. Please know for now, we are pausing our employee vaccine requirement and today’s deadline is no longer in effect.

However, this does not affect our mask mandate – this protocol continues and is still in effect.

Here is where we stand today:

• We are re-assessing the employee vaccine mandate.
• We are reviewing your input into our vaccine survey to determine what the data shows about our ability to provide a safe and healthy environment.
• We are evaluating how we can continue to support all employees during this unprecedented time.

On Monday, Oct. 18, during the closed session of our regularly scheduled Board meeting, we will discuss with our Trustees ways in which the district may move forward. We will communicate with you again as soon as a determination is made.

The challenge that schools and children face at this moment in history are unlike any other that we, as a nation, have ever experienced. Our goal, from the very beginning of this pandemic, has been simple. Your safety and the safety of our children has always been our number one priority. We are proud to have taken every precaution, from masking and social distancing to weekly testing and frequent vaccination clinics. These admirable actions have resulted in extremely low COVID-19 positivity rates, and we are incredibly and forever grateful.

We want to sincerely thank all of you who have responded to the vaccine survey. Your responses have been extremely valuable and additional responses still are beneficial and still needed. The vaccine survey remains open, and if you have not yet submitted a response and would like to voluntarily complete it, we welcome you to do so.

It has been said that we should not limit our challenges, but instead challenge our limits. It is clearly evident if we fully devote ourselves to our dreams, we will conquer every challenge that comes before us, and we will become the exceptional school district that we aspire to be.

Have a wonderful weekend. We truly appreciate YOU.
