Dear SAISD Family Member,
 
It is truly an important time to be a part of this amazing school district, as we accept and embrace the challenges and opportunities to enhance learning possibilities, for every child, every classroom, every day. 
 
Recently, the Texas Education Agency has announced that in some key metrics, the children of our state have lost at least a decade’s worth of progress, especially in the subject of math. Across Texas, school districts are undergoing a metrics decline to percentages not seen since 2012. We are also experiencing this concern right here in SAISD. Monday evening, we shared with our Board of Trustees the disproportionate impact and unprecedented hardships COVID has had on our children since March 2020. 
 
Currently our students are now in their third academic year of not experiencing a normal instructional learning environment and more than half of our students are operating more than one year below their grade level. While disheartening, we believe it is better to have this data, address it, and work together with all stakeholders to help our students overcome this temporary setback.
 
Most importantly, we know that our children are not numbers and that they are beautifully capable of fulfilling their maximum potential. We have proved in the past that we are accomplished and skillful in supporting the hopes and dreams of the students who sit in our classrooms, the graduates who walk our stage, the families who wish for something more, and the teachers, administrators, and support staff who make this dream possible.
 
David Viscott once stated, “If you could get up the courage to begin, you have the courage to succeed.” 
 
On behalf of our Board of Trustees and the entire SAISD, thank you for believing in our children, for supporting each other, and for having the courage to challenge us to do more, to learn more, to dream more, and most importantly, to become more.
