Dear SAISD Familia:

You’ve likely heard the district is conducting a study to analyze school building capacity for the purpose of supporting thriving schools, classrooms, students, teachers, and school leaders. We are firmly committed to delivering on our promise of a high-quality education for every child, which is outlined in our Always Learning strategic management plan. 

It is important for you to know that because of the study, we may recommend to our Board of Trustees the consolidation or closure of some schools for the 2024-2025 school year. We want to do better for our children by ensuring each student has the same access to extraordinary educational experiences and resources regardless of the campus where they attend. I understand many of you may have questions about this rightsizing study and its potential outcomes. Change is never easy, and this is a daunting task before all of us. Please know that this will be a transparent process and you will be informed along the way. Most importantly, you will have a say in the process.

In the coming weeks, the district will hold 14 public meetings across the district to lay out a draft framework that could guide the district’s analysis. Please come to one or more of these meetings! We need your input to develop the best framework possible for an outcome that elevates the educational experiences of our children and the teaching and working experiences for our employees.

In these meetings, we will explain the framework that will guide our analysis and ask for your feedback, and we will amend the framework criteria based on that feedback. This framework will be used to determine a list of schools to be presented to the Board of Trustees for consideration for closure or consolidation, as well as the schools that would receive the transitioning students and staff. The board will make the final decision whether to close or consolidate schools on Nov. 13.

We know that major decisions like this aren’t black and white and that is why the draft framework incorporates values as well as primary and contextual criteria. You may have other ideas we need to consider, and we need to hear those ideas!

If you cannot attend any of the upcoming meetings, please share your thoughts on the proposed framework through this online survey. 

Again, I know that change is always difficult, but without change there would be no butterflies. This process will help our district produce more butterflies, whether they are students, staff or family members. After all, we are all part of the same beautiful familia.

Probablemente estén al tanto de que el distrito está llevando a cabo un estudio de la capacidad de las instalaciones escolares con el fin de apoyar a las escuelas, los salones, los estudiantes, los maestros y los líderes escolares exitosos. Estamos comprometidos a cumplir con nuestra promesa de proporcionar una educación de alta calidad para cada estudiante, según se detalla en nuestro plan de gestión estratégica de Siempre Aprendiendo. 

Es importante que sepan que, como resultado de este estudio, podríamos recomendarle a nuestra Junta Directiva que se consoliden o se cierren algunas escuelas para el año escolar 2024-2025. Queremos hacer lo mejor por nuestros niños al asegurar que cada estudiante tenga el mismo acceso a las experiencias educativas y recursos extraordinarios independientemente de a cuál escuela asista. Entiendo que muchos de ustedes pueden tener preguntas sobre este estudio de reestructuración y sus posibles resultados. El cambio nunca es fácil, y esta es una tarea abrumadora para todos nosotros. Tengan en cuenta que este será un proceso transparente y les proporcionaremos actualizaciones a lo largo del camino. Lo más importante es que tendrán la oportunidad de contribuir en el proceso.

Necesitamos su aporte para desarrollar el mejor marco posible para un resultado que eleve las experiencias educativas de nuestros niños, y las experiencias de enseñanza y laborales de nuestros empleados.

En estas reuniones, explicaremos el marco que guiará nuestro análisis, pediremos sus comentarios y modificaremos los criterios del marco en función de esos comentarios. Este marco se utilizará para determinar una lista de escuelas que se presentarán a la Junta Directiva para su consideración de cierre o consolidación, así como las escuelas que recibirían a los estudiantes y al personal en transición. La junta tomará la decisión final sobre si cerrar o consolidar las escuelas el 13 de noviembre.

Sabemos que las decisiones importantes como esta no son en blanco y negro, y es por eso que el borrador del marco incorpora valores al igual que criterios fundamentales y contextuales. Podrían tener otras ideas que debemos considerar, ¡y queremos escuchar esas ideas!

Una vez más, sé que el cambio siempre es difícil, pero sin el cambio no habría mariposas. Este proceso ayudará a nuestro distrito a producir más mariposas, ya sean estudiantes, personal o miembros de la familia. Después de todo, todos somos parte de la misma familia hermosa.
