COVID-19 communications and questions about leave - March 16, 2020
03/16/2020

Dear SAISD Staff:

Thank you for continuing to partner with us to ensure that our students, teachers and families are well served during this challenging time.

In times of uncertainty, information is critical. We want to make sure that you’re hearing directly from the District about the plans we’re putting in place, the decisions we’re making, and the process we’re following.

Therefore, I pledge that you will hear from me or the communications team on a daily basis. All updates also will be posted to the employee portal and webpage.

Please continue to communicate with us, too. Your questions and concerns shape our planning. There are several ways to do this and all questions will be responded to within 24 hours:

• For medical questions, please email nursequestions@saisd.net.

• For all general questions and concerns regarding the District’s COVID response, please email COVIDinfo@saisd.net.

• For any questions specific to employee benefits such as whether you should report to work or regarding leave requests, please call (210) 554-8660.

With the unprecedented situation of our school closures, we realize that many of you have questions about whether or not you should report to work.

Of the essential staff members that were asked to report to work today, there may be some who should not be in public for medical or precautionary reasons – and we have identified three categories of employees who should remain at home.

The employees who fit into these categories will not have their absences deducted from their leave:

• If you are symptomatic with a fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

• If you have a serious, chronic medical condition as diagnosed by your physician.

• If you recently traveled internationally or to U.S. regions identified by CDC as having a high number of community cases such as Washington State, Oregon, California, Colorado and New York. In this case, we ask that you self-quarantine for 14 days from the last date of travel.

For those of you who have traveled, please continue to update Employee Benefits with this information by filling out the online form or by calling (210) 554-8660. In addition to the states listed above, please notify us also if you have traveled to Houston, Dallas, or Austin. Please note that the travel advisories may be updated daily, and the District will continue to update you as additional regions are added by the CDC.

Similarly, we have identified other instances where the standard leave policy will be in effect. The employees who fit into these categories will have their absences deducted from their leave:

• If you already had requested a leave of absence.

• If you requested/request a leave for any other purpose.

Thank you, again, for your commitment to SAISD students and for your work during this important time.

Sincerely,
Pedro
