Relationship building is the foundation for Restorative Practices. These practices help school communities capture healthy relationships by building and maintaining strong bonds of trust.  When harm happens, these relationships help us repair harm and prevent conduct that hinders academic success. Restorative climates address student behavior in a manner that promotes meaningful accountability and through the process, teaches our students social emotional skills.

Restorative School Environments Do:

  • Help improve school climates by focusing on building relationships, community enhancement, and meaningful accountability.
  • Support social emotional learning (SEL) by teaching our students the five core SEL competences.
  • Encourage student engagement in the classroom and help promote classroom management
  • Decrease discipline referrals and classroom disruptions and help increase student cooperation
