While severe suicide risk may indicate a need for follow up services once the risk is mitigated, including but not limited to, a safety plan, student crisis plan, Section 504 plan or Individualized Education Program, the immediate safety needs of the student are the first priority. Upon mitigation of risk to the student’s safety in severe situations, follow up planning may include consultation or evaluation from the CARE team, or LSSP if appropriate.
In situations where a child may indicate a high risk level based on the SAISD suicide assessment and is an immediate risk to themselves, which may result in serious injury or death of the student, where emergency detention would be warranted due to the severity at the time, the CARE team should not be the primary contact, and instead, the child’s parent and emergency response personnel should be immediately contacted.
