Texas A&M University – San Antonio


SAISD is offering school teachers and instructional leaders the opportunity to earn a Master’s degree through the district’s partnership with Texas A&M-San Antonio. These degree programs allow teachers to complete the 36-hour Master’s program in two years.

About the Program

  • SAISD will provide full tuition coverage for the Master’s degree programs
  • Participant will be responsible for: the application fee, student fees, and textbooks every semester. Books are estimated to cost approximately $300-$800, when needed. Payment plans are available through the Business office at TAMUSA.
  • The program is a 2-year commitment - 6 semesters starting the fall semester
  • Classes will be held once per week for 2.5 hours at a SAISD location and summer semesters at TAMUSA. Some courses are hybrid courses (part online and part face-to-face)
  • In exchange for the payment of tuition, the individuals selected to participate agree to diligently pursue and obtain the TAMU-SA Degree until completion and continue full–time employment with SAISD as a classroom teacher or implementation specialist for 3 consecutive, complete academic years.

SAISD Admissions Requirements

  • 2+ years of teaching experience   
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • GPA 2.6 or higher on a 4.0 scale

About the Degrees

The Master of Science in Reading program at Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-SA) is a robust program that provides teachers with an impetus to teach reading through a higher level of understanding about literacy’s how’s and why’s. In this program, you have the option to obtain a Reading Specialist and Master Reading Teacher Certification.

Texas A&M University - San Antonio professors provide rigorous instruction and assignments that can be tailored to meet the needs of the teachers and students of San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD). The blend of theory and practice will provide a unique opportunity for participants to gain a systemic perspective along with practical local procedures and policies.
